Job Description:

Outstanding individuals are encouraged to apply for the position of dean of the KU School of Pharmacy. The dean serves as chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Pharmacy and provides strategic and visionary leadership to advance the school's renowned research and academic programs in state-of-the-art academic and research facilities. School Profile As one of the country's premier pharmacy schools, we educate and train the pharmacists who serve the people of our state and country, and the researchers who help solve the world's most pressing issues in health care. In 2017, the school received more than $11 million in National Institutes of Health funding, ranking fourth in the nation for such grants. Approximately 150 candidates are accepted annually into the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) professional degree program after completing two years of pre-pharmacy coursework. This program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and students in the class of 2018 achieved a first-time pass rate of 100% on the North American Pharmacists Licensure Exam (NAPLEX). The school is home to four departments including Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology and Pharmacy Practice; all provide instruction in the Pharm.D. curriculum. Additionally, master's and doctoral degrees are offered by the departments of Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Pharmacology & Toxicology; a Ph.D. is offered by the Neurosciences Program; master's degrees and post-graduate residency training are offered by Pharmacy Practice. The school has a presence on three campuses, headquartered in a state-of-the-art building on KU's west campus in Lawrence, a thriving community of approximately 100,000, situated 35 mi. west of Kansas City and 20 mi. east of Topeka, the Kansas state capital. Among the 150 Pharm.D. students admitted each year, 130 are assigned to the main campus in Lawrence and 20 are assigned to our regional campus in Wichita, the state's largest city, located 160 mi. southwest of Lawrence. Interprofessional education, simulation, and advanced pharmacy practice experience opportunities for students are available at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. School Mission The school provides opportunities for professional, graduate, and postgraduate students; encourages the advancement of patient-centered care; and provides leadership in developing innovative technologies and pharmaceuticals and in conducting drug therapy-related research inclusive of basic, clinical, and administrative sciences for the state, nation, and world. Educational Philosophy Upon completion of the Pharm.D. program, students have a strong foundation in science and are practice-ready for team-based care. KU School of Pharmacy graduates have the knowledge, skills, and professional characteristics needed to deliver patient-centered care as interprofessional team members contributing to the advancement of the pharmacy profession. Our graduates are proficient at translating basic science knowledge into clinical applications, providing comprehensive pharmacist-delivered patient-centered care, managing resources and systems effectively and efficiently, and providing population-based health care. Students acquire a strong foundation in biomedical, pharmaceutical and pharmacological, social, behavioral, administrative, and clinical sciences. They possess the ability to integrate and apply learned information within our program and in interprofessional learning environments. Excellence in graduate education and scholarly achievement has a long-standing history of success and is broadened by distance-learning programs leading to master's and doctoral degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a master's degree in Pharmacology & Toxicology.
