Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Writing and Learning, the Assistant Director for Peer Educator Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing unit-wide online and in-person peer tutor training to ensure UASC peer educators receive foundational skills in providing peer academic support to meet the needs of all KU students. The Assistant Director will also assist the Sr. Associate Director for Writing and Learning in designing highly engaging online academic support programs to support the Jayhawk Global initiative. The Assistant Director coordinates UASC peer educator certification efforts for the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) and serves on the peer educator observation team. Position Requirements This position requires working on-site. Limited evening and occasional weekend work may be required. Unit Overview: University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support unit designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas while supporting the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills; and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Academic Learning Center, the Academic Retention and Engagement Center, KU Writing Center, Native Student Initiatives, and the Student Access Center. UASC is a department within the Office of Academic Success. Job Requirements: 40% - -Develops and implements unit-wide online and in-person peer educator training designed to prepare peer educators as they on-board into their positions as writing consultants, tutors, SI leaders, peer mentors, or academic aides with close collaboration with UASC staff. Coordinates the annual UASC-wide peer educator training conference.25% - - -Assists with designing engaging online tutoring programming to support the Jayhawk Global initiative. Keeps current with best practices for online tutoring and learning.15% - -Coordinates and implements assessment and evaluation of peer educator cross-training to ensure learning outcomes for peer tutor training are being met. Serves as a member on the peer educator observation team, supporting both in-person and virtual tutor observations. Assists the Sr. Associate Director in coordinating assessment of writing and learning programming and developing annual reports for the ALC and KUWC.10% - -Manages Peer Educator certification for CRLA and coordinates unit-wide student employee professional development opportunities focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.5% - -Provides students with academic consultations or academic success workshops in locations across campus5% - -Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications ---------------Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or related field -PLUS -three (3) years' experience providing academic support services or academic advising. Prior work experience designing modules in online learning management systems (i.e. Canvas). - - Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience training students. Experience working with diverse student populations. Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by the cover letter and resume. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in education, education technology, curriculum and instruction, psychology, higher education administration, student development, or related field. Experience working both independently and as a team in a continuously changing environment. Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks. Experience training and/or teaching undergraduate students. Experience using SoftChalk, GoReact, Kaltura, VoiceThread, and Microsoft Teams. - Excellent verbal communication skills as demonstrated by interview process. - Public speaking experience.
